UK/EU flight delay compensation rules are super simple.

Your flight delay must be more than 3 hours, and it must be due to easyJet’s fault. For example, technical problems are considered the airline’s fault. In all these situations, you can get up to €600 compensation from easyJet.

This compensation has to be paid to your bank account.

This applies to all delays and cancellations.

How much is easyJet flight delay compensation?

The amount of flight compensation in the EU depends on the duration of the delay and the distance of the flight. The longer the flight, the more compensation from the airline you can get. As long as the delay is at least 3 hours. The rules are the same also for UK flights.

  • 250 euros – if the flight is up to 1,500 km (3-hour delay or more)
  • 400 euros – if the flight is up to 3,500 km (3-hour delay or more)
  • 600 euros – if the flight is more than 3,500 km (4-hour delay or more)
  • 300 euros – if the flight is more than 3,500 km (3-4 hour delay)

All of these compensation amounts are per passenger.

Children, including infants on infant tickets, can get the same amount, too.

How much can you claim for the easyJet flight delay? In 2024, there are four options – 250, 300, 400, or 600 euros. 250 and 400 are the most common.

How to Claim EasyJet Flight Delay Compensation?

At the moment, there are two options for how you can claim easyJet flight delay compensation – one easier, the other harder. First, you can contact easyJet customer service. Second, you can work with a European flight compensation company.

  1. You can contact easyJet customer service to ask for flight delay compensation. Send them a message or email. Then, keep on reminding them about your flight compensation claim. Remember, it might take a few months to get the money, often – half a year. Go to easyJet.com or easyJet app, to start the process.
  2. You can work with a European flight compensation company. Just use our claim, and experts will take care of everything from the negotiations to legal actions (if the latter becomes necessary). If you use this method, claiming for flight delay is easy.

What to Do If Your EasyJet Flight Is Delayed 3 Hours, or More?

If your easyJet flight is delayed for 3 hours or more, do this:

1. Keep following information about the delay. When a flight is delayed, it’s important to keep updated on the situation. Visit the airport’s website or easyJet.com for the latest information on your easyJet flight delay status.

2. Contact easyJet. If you booked a flight directly with easyJet, get in touch with the airline. Find out why the flight is delayed, and what they recommend you to do next. If you know the reason behind the delay it might help you later, when and if you will be applying for flight compensation. If you booked the flight elsewhere, contact also the seller.

3. Know your Rights as a traveller in Europe. Under UK and EU laws, if your flight is delayed by 3 hours or more, you have the right to get certain free services and also flight compensation from the airline. The former includes things like getting free meals and drinks and free hotel stays. We talk more about this below (look for “Right to Care”).

4. Keep all your documents. Save the boarding pass. Make sure to save all the receipts if you are making any extra purchases right now as a result of this delay. You may need them later.

5. Claim flight delay compensation. Do this as soon as you arrive to your destination. This way you will fasten the process.

Right to Care From EasyJet

If you have to wait at the airport, you may have a right to care.

This rule applies to all easyJet flight delays and flight cancellations.

It includes problems that aren’t the airline’s fault, things that are considered extraordinary circumstances. No matter what causes a delay, unless it’s you, you have these rights.

  • If you have to wait for 3 hours extra, you have a right to a meal or two, and emails or calls. This is usually provided in a form of coupons that you can use at the airport.
  • If you have to wait at the airport overnight, easyJet must offer you a free hotel stay and free airport transfer to that hotel and back.

What if you haven’t received any of this? First, try to get in touch with easyJet to ask them to arrange these services. If that doesn’t work, pay for all these things yourself, keep the receipts and later file a claim for extra expenses.

What If You Miss a Connecting Flight With EasyJet?

Second, you can book several separate flights.

In this case, if you miss one of them due to the delay of another, this is considered your responsibility – you have to buy a new flight yourself.

The same applies to all situations.

  • and all other possible combinations

No matter the airline, this is considered your responsibility. Flights like these are known as self-transfer flights.

EasyJet Travel Voucher? Can You Ask for a Bank Transfer?

Yes, you can refuse an easyJet voucher.

If you are entitled to flight delay compensation, you don’t have to accept an easyJet voucher. You have the right to request a money transfer.

The same is true with flight cancellations. If your easyJet flight is cancelled, European rules say you can ask for your money back instead of accepting an airline voucher. If the flight cancellation is due to the airline’s fault, you also have a right to compensation.

Here Are 4 Situations When You Can Get EasyJet Flight Delay Compensation

These are just a few examples, so you better understand how it works.

  1. Delayed easyJet flight from Paris to Amsterdam. If your flight from Paris to Amsterdam with easyJet is delayed for more than three hours, you may be eligible for compensation of up to 250 euros per passenger since the distance is less than 1,500 km.
  2. Cancelled easyJet flight from London to Fez. If your flight from London to Fez with easyJet is cancelled less than 2 weeks before the flight, you may receive compensation of up to 400 euros.
  3. Technical issues caused a last-minute flight cancellation on an easyJet flight from Edinburgh to Berlin. If your flight from Edinburgh to Berlin with easyJet experiences technical issues resulting in a cancellation, you may be entitled to compensation of 250 euros.
  4. Long tarmac delay at Geneva Airport. If your easyJet flight departing from Geneva Airport is held on the tarmac for more than three hours during takeoff or landing as a result of their mistake, you will be eligible for compensation of up to 600 euros, depending on your destination. Remember that the delay is calculated at the moment of actual arrival – when the doors of an aeroplane are opened and passengers are free to leave the plane.

It’s important to note that each situation will be evaluated individually and there may be exceptions based on certain circumstances. However, these are some common examples where passengers have successfully received EasyJet flight delay compensation in the past.
